Sri Lanka’s east coast is best between April and September when the ocean is calmer than anywhere else on the island. It’s a long drive from the airport so you could either opt to fly there and back (and simply use the beautiful Kalkudah Beach House as a base since Polonnaruwa and Minneriya National Park are both an easy day trip from the coast) or you could drive there via the Cultural Triangle and then back through the island’s hill country. This itinerary gives you an insight into how you could combine our hotels for a summer stay.
After exploring the sites of the Cultural Triangle, head east to Kalkudah Beach, a long unspoilt stretch of beach that is one of the island’s very best for relaxing and soaking up a Robinson Crusoe way of life (albeit in much comfort from Kalkudah Beach House). Move on via Gal Oya Lodge for your nature/wildlife element, before looping back via Nine Skies and onwards to Galle Fort. If your clients have time, they could tag on a luxury safari with Leopard Trails.
