Sri Lanka is an exceptional destination for families. A wide range of diverse destinations, natural attractions, beaches and wildlife promise to entertain children of all ages. This journey is designed around travelling to Sri Lanka over the summer holidays and takes in our most family friendly hotels in the best seasonal areas* that offer a variety of things to do.
Water Garden – Sigiriya has vast grounds, a children’s pool and 2-bedroom duplexes. Moving on, travel to Kalkudah Beach House on the east coast where the weather is fine and dry, and the ocean is calm (for water sports, head to nearby Pasikudah). The hotel has a two-bedroom Palm Villa which could be booked independently (though the pool is shared).
Families would enjoy any of the three tea bungalows operated by Teardrop Hotels (Goatfell, Camellia Hills and Nine Skies) as each has a family suite, though Nine Skies is best at this time of the year, and close to easy walks and a 500-metre zipline.
After Nine Skies you could enjoy a glamping experience at Leopard Trails Yala before travelling back via Galle (Why House is excellent for families) to explore Galle Fort before heading home.
*Although the monsoon affects south and western areas in May and June, and again in late September onwards, the inter-monsoon months of July and August tend to be drier.
